What to wear is easily one of the top questions I get, and I get why – getting everyone dressed (and on board) can feel like half the battle. The good news is it doesn’t have to be complicated.
You don’t need perfect outfits, you just need things that feel like you, photograph well, and work together without trying too hard.
Here’s how I’d think about it:
1) WEAR WHAT FEELS LIKE YOU
The best outfits are the ones that feel natural, just slightly elevated from your everyday. If something feels too far outside your comfort zone, it’ll show in the photos. When you feel good, you look good – it’s that simple.
2) CHOOSE COLORS & PATTERNS WISELY
Think in a mix of tones rather than one exact color. I usually recommend pulling in 1–2 richer or more standout colors, then balancing everything else with softer neutrals. Avoid anything overly loud or distracting. Subtle patterns (like stripes or plaid) tend to photograph really well.

3) COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER, BUT DON’T MATCH
You don’t need everyone in the same outfit or color. Instead, think about how everything works together as a whole. If one piece has a pattern or multiple tones, you can pull from that to tie the rest of the outfits in without being too “matchy.”

4) ELEVATE YOUR LOOKS
No need to go super formal, just slightly more intentional than everyday. A flowy dress, a cozy knit, darker denim, or swapping sneakers for something a bit more polished can make a big difference without feeling overdone.
At the end of the day, this is about capturing your family as you are, the outfits can just help tell that story a little more cohesively 🤍
